Living Green, One Tip at a Time - (a weekly feature)

Tip # 38
It may be the most wonderful time of the year but it's also the most wasteful!
Save energy by choosing LED lights for your Christmas tree.

Choose LEDs (light-emitting diodes) instead of incandescent bulbs to decorate your tree and home. They're more expensive, but last much longer and use 80% to 90% less power than conventional mini bulbs. LEDs, which cast a bright white light, also stay cool to the touch so they won't singe the tree—or your child's fingers.

We've switched all the indoor and outdoor Christmas lighting to LED. It was an expense to do it, but we felt it was the right and responsible thing to do. We're now used to the look of the LEDs and quite like them.

We switched to LED outdoor lights a few years ago. There is no compromise in illumination and they certainly help decrease the power output.
