#8 - Your Food (part 2)
- Organic: The What is Organic? page explains what organic produce is and how it is certified.
- Local: Buy food (and drink - ideally tap - water) from local companies whenever possible. Each pound of local food you purchase prevents a quarter pound of climate change (C02) emissions. Support your area's Farmer's Market. If possible, grow your own fruits and vegetables using organic gardening practices. You can find local farmer's markets, community supported agriculture, restaurants that cook with regional cuisine, and food cooperatives through Local Harvest.

I buy organic when I can and I'd love to be able to buy all organic. I hope organic food will become more affordable in future, but I guess it's all up to each and everyone of us. The more we support it, the more the industry will grow.
ReplyDeleteI just found out yesterday the Tractor Supply store in our small town is starting a local market for Farmers, Ranchers and crafters.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try it out.

I think it's great that you provided information about *what* buying local and organic actually means. So many people just don't know because these terms have become a little mainstream. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteEnjoying your tips! I think a vegetarian life is a great one!
