Living Green, One Tip at a Time - (a weekly feature)

Living Green, One Tip at a Time -

# 2 - Wear it or use it more than once -

OK...I'm not talking about your underwear and socks, but there are many items of clothing we just automatically remove and toss in the laundry.  (Personally, I wish I could wear my jeans for a couple weeks before I had to wash them!!)  And what about those big fluffy bath towels....hang them on a hook...they don't need to be tossed after every use.

  2. I'll admit I channel my grandmother by reusing ziplock bags. Seriously - they are hard to come by in Italy and you learn to reuse a lot of things in a tiny Tuscan apartment. I've brought many of these habits back and forth to the states with me, to include not using the clothes dryer as much - and in the summer hardly at all. Look forward to more tips!

  3. New follower... coming to you from twitter...I agree about towels...it drives me nuts to have to wash as many towels as I do for just 2 adults and 2 toddlers.

Would love a follow back at http://www.aspoonfulosugr.blogspot.com

    thanks,

  4. Hey, great advice! Is 'handwashing' a dirty word?? It's WAAAY more energy efficient to wash a few items by hand ... but I guess it's easy downunder here in OZ during summer! But we also hang washing on a rack in front of the combustion heater in winter - overnight they're dry without any extra energy use!

  8. Thanks for visiting my blog on the Over 40 Tour. I'm following you back. Since my youngest daughter went to college, I've been laundering towels once every other week because my DH and I reuse ours. I also wear my jeans at least 3 days before throwing them in the wash. I used to do one load of laundry a day, 6 days a week, but now I only have 2 maybe 3 loads a week. Amazing what a teenage girl can generate!

  9. Since getting a super jump in our hydro bill, along with the rest of our area, we decided to hang laundry in our basement to dry overnight. It provides extra moisture, cutting down on the use of the humidifier...and..it saves energy!!!
Since there's now only 2 of us it seems to make sense.
Oh yeh, we're shoveling show by hand this year too.....but that ain't gonna happen next year!!! lol

  13. I totally agree about the towels! I just put them on a hook to dry as well. Unless they are soiled of course. But that is not very likely since I just got out of the shower :)

  14. I am a tree hugger, too, and I agree that towels and outer clothes can be used several times between washings. We also hang out things to dry. We need to treat the Earth with care. Thank you for your green tips.
